I’m really stoked at the thought of finally starting my own business. It has been something I always wanted to do. The business is now registered, has a website up(not fully completed yet) and we’re gonna have our first project soon. It’s run by 3 of us (Me, Hanquan, Jeddy).
At some point, there were hiccups and we were facing difficulties with administrative issues with the mundane task of all those AGM’s, Tax Returns..blablabla list goes on. But it’s all good now.
I’m putting a lot of effort into making sure this goes well. People are telling me it’s going to be difficult; I have no doubts about that. I’m prepared for this. The 3 of us are venturing into an unknown territory. At this stage, it doesn’t even matter how technically skilled we are. The business side of things is something we’re totally foreign to. But without risk, there’ll be no gain.
Been reading up on startup articles, getting tips from friends. It’s only the start and I had vexations along the way already; It’s okay though..this is expected. Our priority now is to plan in-depth on our business direction and vision for the company.
Recently, I made some observations.
1) Students in school are always complaining about how they’re not being taught enough. This is a typical mindset of Singaporeans generally. I hate to be spoon-fed. I believe in gathering information and learning yourself based on what has already been taught to you. No one owes you a living.
2) People are generally quick to brush off ideas. But most can’t suggest a better alternative. And so I’ve learnt not to do the same; Pause and think again before you say ‘No’
Interestingly, the successful startups we see today were often based on ideas that people think were not feasible.
Founder of Alibaba(Billion dollar ecommerce company) Jack Ma came to where he is today because he continued to pursue his dreams even when his friends said it’s impossible.
Well, there’s probably a thin line between stubbornness and perseverance. As to where the line is, I don’t know. I’ll let you know if I cross it.
